Even distracted, Emily and Rosie both perk up at that, chiming in about how much they'd love to and how they could help, voice overlapping each other's. Brendan can't help but laugh. Raising two girls on his own these last few years has been unbelievably difficult, and at times more frustrating than he would have expected — something that he can only imagine will continue to be the case as they get older — but he still just as often finds them endearing. There's no doubt in his mind that they're the best part of his life, the best thing he's ever done. That would be the case no matter what world they were in.
"Well, it sounds like they agree," he says, half-teasing, and smiles at Jessica. "Really, that would be great. I... think it would be really good for them." Nothing is ever going to fill the space in their lives where Tess was, and he certainly wouldn't expect a friend he's made to fill the role of a mother, but for them to have any sort of maternal presence in their lives can only do them good.
